Introducing: Camp Discover!
I recently made a trip up to Camp Tekakwitha in Shawano, WI. Upon arrival, I was quickly reminded of why that place is so special. Kids spend all year counting down the days until they get to go back to camp. Why? For some, it is an escape from the challenges they face, for others, it is their safe place, and for others, it is the place they find true joy, the place they have encountered and met Jesus Christ. Camp Tek does amazing work, but unfortunately, summer camp is only offered seven weeks a year. I started to wonder how we could offer this to our families year round.
It is with great excitement that I get to announce that this September, Camp Discover will begin at the Quad-Parishes! Camp Discover will replace our K8 programs that we have had in the past known as Religious Ed, CCD and Faith Formation. Some things will remain the same – our meal program and the beautiful teachings of the Catholic Church – but Camp Discover provides active, engaged learning for all the children. Rather than sitting in desks like another class, students will meet in rooms, set up to help them learn in a fun, exciting and new environment.
We want to make this fall the best fall yet with Camp Discover and we are in need of ideas to turn St. Joe’s into Camp! Whether you have been one of our catechists in the past, you are a parent, or even one of our students, we would like to invite you to a Camp Discover planning meeting! If you are artistically creative, musically inclined, passionate about Religious Education or anything in between, we would love to hear your thoughts. Please join us Wednesday, July 7 at St. Joseph in the Holy Grounds Cafe at 5:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided. Just bring your creative thinking caps!
